Happy Birthday

Cupcake decorated with a single pink candle

English Travel Fashion is celebrating its 1st birthday today. I would like to thank all my readers and followers. Without your support I don’t think I would have lasted this long.

Thank you so much!

The Minions are back

The line between films for children and adults has blurred over the years. Take Despicable Me, its an uplifting story, which dealt with the themes of redemption and the power of love, and how could you not love the extremely adorable characters, especially the too-cute-to-be-true yellow minions and the hilarious lines like “It’s so fluffy, I’m going to dieeeeeeeeeeeee!”. The great news is that ex-scheming evildoer-turned-lovable parental figure Dr Gru, his girls and the minions are back for a sequel.. Expect more side-splitting antics from Gru and company.

Overshare – May 2013

Here are some of the things I found and love in May. Hope you like them as much as I did.

Shops: VNC

Launching its rainbow-colored collection, VNC opens a store with a new concept at Pondok Indah Mall 1. Presenting 24 looks of VNC Spring 2013 collections, a floral affair inspired by tea parties, candy bars and beautiful, delicate blooms with floral candies. This season, VNC offers ballet pumps, sandals and flats, going hand in hand with Spring floral dresses and lace detail. The new store concept reflects the modern style and premium quality of the brand. I’ve bought  five pairs from them this month alone.

Books: World War Z by Max Brooks

My favourite movie genre is horror. I love mummies, vampires, werewolves (not the Twilight kind) so when I saw this book at Periplus I had to read it. World War Z is an oral account of the zombie war – told by men and women who witness the horror and how they managed to survive. I’m dying to get my hands on a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide. However the book selection in Jakarta is limited and I’m just going to have to wait until I get to Singapore or Malaysia. Can’t wait for the movie …

Food: Arab Corner

This little gem is hidden in Jalan Jaksa area. The food is amazing and authentic. And the prices reasonably – a meal for two people is usually about Rp.200 000 including a starter. The service is a little slow at lunch time but the dinner service is quick and you get to watch the street vendors selling wares from the first floor without getting hassled.

Blogs: Sea of shoes

I love this blog. It’s written by Jane Aldridge and even though our lifestyles are completely different the images on this blog are truly a work of art. She has inspired me to use more colour and accessories in my daily life.  And also to take better pictures. www.seaofshoes.com

This month’s obsession: Basic Gray Sweatshirt

For the last few months I’ve been hunting for a basic gray sweatshirt with no luck. Dry season is here and so are summer clothes so chances of me finding now is slim to none. However I still can’t help but obsess over it.

Happy Traveling!

Best things about April ’13 …

Shops: Victoria’s secret

Victoria’s secret has opened its new store in Indonesia at Plaza Seneyan, Jakarta. The brand offers a wide range of products for body products, perfume, cosmetics as well as accessories such as sunglasses, handbags and suitcases.

Blog: Putting me together.

This is my go to blog in the mornings when I feel like I have nothing to wear. Audrey uses everyday clothing items (jeans, cardigans and ballet pumps) and try to mix them together to not only make them look good but also to suit her lifestyle. You won’t find any one hit wonders or any hard to pull off until you’re a size zero designer looks. What I love about this site is the fact that its things I own and its items I can wear to school and still look professional. www.puttingmetogether.com

Books: Fallen series by Lauren Kate.

A dark romance featuring fallen angels, forbidden love and reincarnation. I enjoyed the entire series and I can see a lot of teenagers and the moms reading the books. Can’t wait for the movie!

 Food: Mad for Garlic

Aromas to die for. This not so little (it looks small from the outside) restaurant is located in Grand Indonesia and is open until 10pm. The smell of garlic as you walk in is absolutely mouth watering and so are the cocktail selection.

3D Painting by Shintaro Ohata

Artist who are both painters and sculptures are not unusual. However, Shintaro Ohata leaves you with a feeling of awe with his mesmerizing technique of combining two mediums in single works in which a painting and sculpture are displayed together as a mixed work.

Shintaro Ohata is a Japanese artist from Hiroshima who depicts little things in everyday life with a unique touch. His paintings show oridinary sceneries like roads on a rainy day, fast food shops at dawn, etc.

His well known characteristics are combining 2D and 3D worlds, like placing sculptures in front of his paintings, but showing them as one work.

It all started when he wondered if he could bring atmosphere or dynamism of his paintings into a different way if he places sculptures in front of paintings.

His inspirations come whenever he feels that ordinary moments from out everyday lives are so beautiful and dramatic. He wants to share it with other people through a painting that has universal beauty which can connect him with other people.

New Year Style Resolutions

There are loads of fun, fashion trends that I would love to try but I just can’t seem to find the courage to actually wear. So this year I’ve decided to make a fashion bucket list. Things to try at least once this year.

1. Leopard print.

2. The biker jacket.

3. White jeans.

4. Nail art.

5. The statement necklace.

6. Clashing prints.

8. The pixie cut – I need help maintaining my current style.

9. Sexy sleepwear.

10. Day sequins.

On a personal front:

1. Be the type of person I’d like to meet.

2. Travel more.

3. And most importantly make time for family and friends.

Happy New Year!

Inspiration boards

Gather up images you find inspiring and get pinning. Plus, it’s an excuse to have a crafternoon.

Getting started.

Start fresh: Invest in a nice new pin board – the black canvas will inspire you to start decorating.

Get personal: Flick through a few of your favourite magazines as you want the board to reflect you and what you aspire to.

Do your research: Make the most of pinterest and blogs.

Look outside the box:   Go beyond pics and collect anything that appeals to you – scribbles on a Post-it, coasters from bars or even garment swing tags.

Pretty it up: Add dimension with pretty ribbons, sequins and lace. Try hanging up some jewelry as well.

On display: Place your board next to your wardrobe or in your bedroom to inspire you when you’re getting dressed or set it as your phone’s wallpaper to keep you from making impulse purchases.

So go ahead surrounding yourself with beautiful, captivating images to help tap into your creativity.
