If you’re lucky, you’ll be treated to a magnificient sunrise and view of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, and in the far distance, Mount Semeru. Walk down and the jeep driver will take you to the savannah. Enjoy the vast views and be sure to take plenty of pictures! Don’t miss out on the sand dunes known as “Pasir Berbisik” and the luscious green hills that our guide called “Bukit Teletubbies” because it resembles those featured on the children’s show. If you’re still got strenght in your stride, climb up the stairs to see the crater of Mount Bromo.

Getting started: The small village of Cemoro Lawang, 46km from Probolinggo is perched on the crater’s edge and has grown up largely to service tourists who visit the Bromo region. It’s the easiest place from which to set off on the pre-dawn excursion to Gunung Bromo itself. There is a national park post where you pay admission to the park or you can buy a ticket from your hotel. You can also arranged for a jeep and driver from the hotel.

Must bring: A coat or jacket. For extra warmth, bring gloves, hat or a scarf. Eraly mornings are dusty and dark, a flashlight would be handy as well.

Happy Traveling!
