Prabal on Target

Prabal Gurung collaborates with Target.

Yes, it is official; Prabal Gurung is collaborating with Target (the budget-friendly US retailer). The women’s collection is set to launch in early 2013.
Gurung, as many will recall, garnered worldwide exposure recently when the Duchess of Cambridge wore a dress from his spring/summer 2012 collection. During the royal couple’s visit to Singapore, in September, Catherine donned his knee-length white and purple print dress. Within days it sold out, and his name trended the world over.
This limited edition collection promises to deliver the Prabal Gurung design aesthetic at an affordable price range, and will include wardrobe essentials ranging from dresses to shoes, jewellery and handbags.

The 80-piece collection is set to debut in February. It will also be available online (target.com) until March 23.
So come Valentine’s Day, many fashionistas in the U.S. will be hunting down a Prabal Gurung original courtesy of Target.
“The collection is inspired by a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone – from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement,” Gurung shares in Target’s blog (abullseyeview.com).
While some may say that a diffusion line with Target (or Kohl’s for that matter) is nothing to brag about, it did wonders for Jason Wu…And, First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of those dresses. “It’s almost like a rite of passage for new, young designers,” he adds. “You know what I mean?” We do.
“I am so thrilled to be working with Target on a collection that brings my designs to a wider audience. This collection was inspired by love and if Target’s guests can feel even a little bit of the love that I felt while I was designing this collection, then I will consider it a job well done,” says Gurung in a statement.
